SUMMARY
- Platter is a London-based platform for wholesale food, has raised €411k in a pre-seed funding round. The money will be used to grow its team, focusing on sales and marketing.
The round was supported by Startup Wise Guys, along with angel investors and others from the SaaS, ERP, and food industries.
“Jack has an outstanding knowledge of the market niche that Platter serves its clients. He combines this with a passion for strategically implementing technology in a rapidly evolving market, and an impressive understanding of the startup ecosystem. Platter was an easy investment for me and my network; we remain extremely bullish on its potential,” says investor Toby Webber.
Platter, founded in 2021, is led by Jack Clegg, a UK food industry expert. Jack wanted to use technology to reduce food waste after years of working in food purchasing.
Platter is a B2B platform that changes the way food suppliers and buyers connect. It acts as a central hub, letting suppliers manage all their buyers and track products from order to delivery.
The platform is designed to make operations easier, save time, and reduce errors. Platter claims it helps businesses increase sales, cut costs, and reduce food waste.
Most businesses in the food industry still order food manually, but Platter brings all food ordering, sales, and purchasing into one digital platform. This solves many problems in sourcing food and saves businesses time.
Platter helps reduce the time spent on orders by an average of 30 minutes per order and can increase sales by up to 26%. The platform connects all partners involved in ordering, delivery, financing, and sustainability, which helps reduce human error, save time, and improve profits.
To support sustainability, Platter helps users donate surplus food to charities. In the UK, over 10 million tonnes of food are wasted every year, much of it still edible. While some of this surplus is already donated, Platter believes more can be done by making it easier to donate through its platform.
Platter is the only platform that connects both manufacturers and buyers and includes tools for finance, food donations, and surplus stock management. The company is targeting a market worth €112 billion, with over 1.1 million potential customers across Europe.
Pitchbook estimates that the FoodTech sector will grow by 20% in 2025.
“Platter has saved us 20 minutes per order and helped us to focus on what really matters whilst creating a better, healthier working environment,” says Ollie Ward, Head of Sales & Marketing at FDL Cheese, a Platter customer.
