Oceanloop Secures Up to €38.5 Million to Scale Land-Based Aquaculture and Giant Grouper Production

Oceanloop, a Munich-based company developing software-powered recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), has secured up to €38.5 million in financing. The funding will help the company expand its technology and increase production of Giant Grouper in Europe.

SUMMARY

  • Oceanloop secured up to €38.5 million in financing to scale its aquaculture technology.
  • The funding will support the expansion of Giant Grouper production across Europe.
  • Founded in 2023, the Munich-based company aims to build a global land-based aquaculture platform.

The financing includes new equity commitments from Hatch Blue’s Blue Revolution Fund and Stolt Ventures, the venture investment arm of Stolt-Nielsen. These investments will support Oceanloop’s growth and technology development.

Oceanloop has also secured a €32 million venture-debt facility from the European Investment Bank (EIB). The EIB is supporting the company’s expansion through this facility, which was originally signed in 2024 and updated in 2026 to include Giant Grouper farming.

“This financing marks the beginning of Oceanloop’s industrial scale-up. Together with Sander Aqua, we have spent more than a decade developing, operating and continuously improving land-based marine aquaculture systems. With Hatch Blue, Stolt Ventures and the European Investment Bank, we are bringing together specialist aquaculture investment expertise, decades of commercial seafood experience and long-term European growth financing. This gives us the foundation to scale Oceanloop from proven technology into an international aquaculture platform,” said Dr. Fabian Riedel, Founder and CEO of Oceanloop.

Founded in 2023, Oceanloop is a German aquaculture technology company focused on producing premium seafood using advanced technology.

The company develops modular, software-powered recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). These systems allow seafood to be farmed in a controlled environment.

Oceanloop was created through the merger of Crusta Nova, an early commercial RAS shrimp producer in Europe, with Sander’s marine aquaculture business. It also acquired Sander’s companies Förde Garnelen and neomar.

Oceanloop’s sister company and seafood brand, Honest Catch, was founded by Dr. Riedel. It sells seafood directly to consumers across the DACH region and supplies restaurants and retailers in Germany and Austria. Honest Catch also supplies Oceanloop’s Giant Grouper to wholesale customers.

Oceanloop combines aquaculture engineering, marine biology, water treatment, software, digital monitoring, operational expertise, and laboratory services. This technology helps the company produce seafood in a more controlled and efficient way.
