Nordic Salt Cycle Raises €3.5M To Advance Molten Salt Mineral Recovery Tech

Investors include EIFO Denmark’s state-owned green transition fund alongside The Footprint Firm and Ananda Impact Ventures.

Founded in 2024, Nordic Salt Cycle is developing molten salt processes to recover critical and strategic minerals from end-of-life products, including EV batteries, wind turbines and electronics. Its patented technology offers a scalable, lower-cost pathway to high-purity materials, supporting a more circular and economically sustainable mineral economy.

The company’s modular approach aims to transform critical material recovery by offering a faster, more sustainable alternative to traditional recycling methods.

Stefan Vilner, CEO and co-founder of Nordic Salt Cycle, says the company’s technology platform has the potential to dramatically improve the recovery of key materials such as lithium and rare earth elements.

Working with our business partners, we can now recover critical minerals from electric vehicle batteries to start with and have the potential to expand our platform into other areas, thereby closing the circular loop at low cost and with high scalability.

Nordic Salt Cycle aims to use its technology to convert end-of-life products such as batteries and permanent magnets into a reliable supply of critical minerals.

The company’s prototype is already operational, and early tests show its molten salt process can separate and extract materials far more efficiently than current methods, while using minimal energy and significantly fewer chemicals, resulting in strong unit economics.
