SUMMARY

  • Needle, a startup focused on information discovery and workflow automation, has raised $2.2 million in Seed funding to help organizations use AI more effectively through its data search and agent development platform. 468 Capital and Presight Capital led the round.
  • Needle makes it easy to use your private data for AI projects. You can connect sources like Google Drive and use Needle’s RAG framework to find relevant documents quickly.

Important information is often trapped in old systems and scattered storage, which traditional AI tools struggle to access. This makes it harder for organizations to use AI efficiently, causing delays and communication problems.

Needle, based in Berlin and San Francisco, solves this problem by giving organizations easy and quick access to data—like documents, notes, and files—through a single search tool that scans all internal systems.

Needle was founded by Onur Eken (CTO) and Jan Heimes (CEO). Eken has led teams at Everstores and helped grow Delivery Hero and Celonis, while Heimes worked as a data engineer at Climeworks and Notable Labs (YC 2015).

The founders saw how difficult it was to work with disconnected data in their industries and now want to make AI accessible to all organizations and help them become AI-enabled.

With Needle, users can connect tools like Confluence, Slack, Gmail, GitHub, and Dropbox to the platform. It then indexes their data, making it easy to search and access right away.

Through a web interface or API users can get answers, automate tasks, and create smart AI agents, all without needing technical skills. The platform’s RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) technology provides clear, reliable answers, helping users work more efficiently.

Jan Heimes, CEO, and co-founder of Needle, said: "Organisations are sitting on goldmines of data current AI systems simply cannot tap into. Our platform provides the foundation for organisations to understand, identify and quickly leverage their existing data assets and build powerful AI applications with just a few clicks.”

Florian Leibert,*General Partner of 468 Capital, said: “Businesses and organisations should not have to hire a team of specialists or spend months working to integrate AI. The team at Needle have found a quick and easy solution for businesses of all sizes to unlock the full potential of their data for AI applications.”

It is just a few months old but has already gained a lot of attention, attracting thousands of users and building a growing developer community around frameworks like Anthropic’s Claude MCP, Langchain, Langflow, and Haystack.

The new funding will help Needle grow its engineering team, improve its technology, and speed up its market efforts.
