SUMMARY

  • British digital bank Monzo has crossed 13 million customers, advancing its goal of becoming the go-to app for managing every aspect of personal finance.

As it celebrates its 10th anniversary, Monzo now serves 12.5 million personal customers around 1 in 5 UK adults and over 700,000 business customers, or 1 in 8 UK businesses. Nearly 1 million customers joined in the last quarter alone.

TS Anil, CEO of Monzo, said: “Monzo has achieved a rare feat – we’ve built a bank that customers love. And that love continues to power huge growth, with two-thirds of new sign-ups coming from word-of-mouth recommendations. From helping under 16s learn about money to supporting customers in their 90s and beyond, we’re here for every stage of our customers’ financial journey, with so many more game-changing products and features to come. It’s incredibly exciting to see Monzo Business also growing rapidly as Monzo becomes the bank of choice for SMEs.”

Founded in 2015, Monzo now serves over 13 million customers, making it the UK’s largest digital bank and the 7th largest overall by customer count. Known for pioneering features like the Gambling Block, Call Status, Added Security, Tax Pots and the 1p Saving Challenge, Monzo’s mission is to “make money work for everyone.”

In FY2025, Monzo reported a 48% jump in revenue to €1.3 billion, with adjusted profit before tax rising sharply to €130.6 million from €15.9 million. The bank is adding over 300,000 new customers monthly, with May and June setting new records.

Monzo’s customer base spans generations—from 650,000 Under 16 accounts to 1,000+ customers aged over 90. Two-thirds of new users come through referrals including their 13 millionth customer, a woman in her 50s who joined through a friend’s recommendation.

Monzo continues to expand its reach and impact, with 40% of its business customers now being women—more than double the UK average, where only 15% of SMEs are female-led. This highlights Monzo’s growing appeal among female entrepreneurs who are looking for tools to start, manage, and grow their businesses.

In the past three months, Monzo has rolled out a range of innovative, often industry-first features aimed at simplifying finance. These include 11 curated Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) tailored for accessible investing, a flexible Home Insurance product with no cancellation fees, and "Undo Payments"—a security feature allowing users to cancel transfers within a 10–60 second window.

With these additions, Monzo now enables customers to manage nearly every aspect of their financial lives in one app—budgeting, saving, borrowing, investing, mortgage tracking, pension consolidation, and insurance—with even more features on the way.
