Lightdash funding news - London-based Lightdash Secures $11Million in Series A Round Funding

Open source business intelligence platform Lightdash secures $11million in series A round funding to accelerate the adoption of self-serve data analytics for modern teams.

SUMMARY

  • Open source business intelligence platform Lightdash secures $11million in series A round funding.
  • Building upon the contemporary data tools that analysts currently adore and rely on, Lightdash is an open-source BI substitute for Looker.

Self-serve business intelligence (BI) technologies, which enable anybody to access and evaluate data and enhance corporate performance, are in high demand as firms generate previously unheard-of volumes of data. However, using legacy BI solutions requires a high level of SQL and data capabilities, isolates data and business logic, and lacks tool integration.

With fully automated testing, version control, and staging environments available, Lightdash's developer tools let data teams handle business intelligence (BI) more like software and expedite workflows.

In addition to it's native integrations with every component of the data stack, including data warehouses and transformation tools like dbt, it also has connections with Slack, Teams, and Google Sheets. This eliminates the requirement for SQL knowledge and enables non-technical end users to self-serve data insights safely and reliably. Because Lighdash is open-source, companies have complete control and freedom over how they implement and utilise the platform.

Along with revealing the investment today, it is also introducing a brand-new, context-specific AI analyst solution that is tailored to the unique requirements and environment of every department within a company, including marketing, finance, and human resources.

Without requiring any prior data knowledge, this AI analyst will enable particular teams to pose queries in natural language about their own data and obtain carefully chosen insights pertinent to their tasks.

Hamzah Chaudhary, founder and CEO of Lightdash, said: “At Lightdash, we want to build self-serve tools that empower data teams to become superheroes. We’ve received incredible feedback on the platform over the last two years, especially since the launch of Lightdash Cloud, and we’re looking forward to continuing to grow our user base and build more powerful BI features like our AI analyst service in the future. We’re excited to continue partnering with Accel and our new investors, who are joining the round on our journey to making all data-driven decisions accessible, actionable, and consistent.”

The round was led by current investor Accel, with participation from angel investors Michael Grinch (founder and CEO of WorkOS) and Shuo Wang (co-founder and CRO of Deel), as well as operators Partners, Shopify Ventures, and current investor Y Combinator.

Andrei Brasoveanu, partner at Accel, said: “Lightdash has demonstrated incredible growth since we partnered with the company for its seed round two years ago, and it has clearly become the most innovative BI platform on the market. Building effective, powerful self-serve BI has been a long-term challenge for data teams of all sizes. We believe the approach Lightdash is taking, providing companies with the tools to make their data teams 10x more productive rather than cut them out completely, is unique and impressive.”

Tiantian Feng, Head of Shopify Ventures, said: “This investment reflects our commitment to open source and empowering fast-scaling merchants with the best tools to run their business. We look forward to seeing Lightdash build the next generation of best practices in BI and become an integral part of their customers’ everyday data workflows, for data teams, business teams, end users, and beyond.”

The money will be used to grow it's development teams in the US and Europe, as well as to expedite product development and introduce new technological capabilities and functionality.
