SUMMARY
- HITAI Acquires Quell’s Motion-Tracking Technology to Advance Sports Intelligence
- Quell is a UK-based fitness gaming company behind the Impact platform and Shardfall combat game.
- HITAI will also acquire Quell’s motion-recognition models, firmware, hardware technology and Shardfall game.
The acquisition will help HITAI improve its camera-based motion recognition technology. It will add Quell’s camera-free technology, which can track movement in real time and is designed to work on small, low-power devices.
As part of the deal, HITAI will receive Quell’s motion-recognition models, firmware and hardware technology used in the Impact console, along with the Shardfall combat game. The acquisition is expected to strengthen HITAI’s technology for sports and fitness applications.
“This acquisition brings years of cutting-edge engineering in the field of human movement recognition into the HITAI fold, with the backing of a team that knows how to ship. Quell’s technology allows us to build upon our video-first core to deliver exceptional products in a wide range of new spaces,” said Ismail Baran, founder and CEO of HITAI.

“A core part of Quell’s mission was redefining what was possible in sports motion recognition. Seeing this technology carried forward at scale by HITAI is an exceptional outcome, and we’re excited to be a part of their future,” said Cameron Brookhouse, CEO of Quell.
HITAI is building a movement intelligence platform for sports videos. Its technology uses computer vision and machine learning to analyse existing training, competition and broadcast videos.
The platform can turn video footage into structured data about athlete movements and performance. It does this without requiring athletes to wear special devices or using sensors and expensive camera systems.
HITAI is first focusing on combat sports before expanding into other sports. Its technology can be used for coaching, athlete performance analysis, live event statistics, broadcasting, automated content creation and sports data services.
Founded in 2020 by Lorenzo Spreafico, Cameron Brookhouse, Martin Tweedie and Douglas Stidolph, Quell is a company that develops fitness video games. Its technology tracks players’ movements and fitness activity while they play.
Quell combines its lightweight motion-tracking technology with strong resistance bands to make workouts feel more realistic. The system provides feedback, resistance and movement tracking based on players’ actions. The company claims its games can help users burn more than 600 calories per hour on average.
