SUMMARY

  • German AI translation startup DeepL is expanding beyond its core translation services with the launch of its first AI agent.

Designed to simplify repetitive tasks for knowledge workers, DeepL Agent can handle workflows in sales, finance, marketing, HR, and more.

The multi-language autonomous agent reflects the growing trend of agentic AI, where systems operate with minimal supervision.

DeepL says its tool can, for example, gather insights for sales teams, automate invoice processing in finance, or manage translation and approval workflows for localization teams.

Jarek Kutylowski, CEO and founder, DeepL, heralded that its “strong background in research gives us a natural advantage in the agentic space in building tools that can understand, reason and then act across a wide range of tasks”.

DeepL’s new agent is currently in beta with select customers, including KBC Bank, law firm Taylor Wessing, and reportedly half of the Fortune 500. While long known for competing with Google Translate, the move positions the Cologne-based startup to take on a wider field of global AI players.

DeepL, valued at $2 billion in 2024, has not yet revealed pricing details or plans for additional agents.
