Stark was founded by Florian Seibel, cofounder and CEO of Quantum Systems, a German company that develops autonomous drones for both commercial and military applications.
Stark focuses on developing and producing combat-ready unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), a growing segment in the drone market amid global geopolitical tensions and the war in Ukraine.
In July 2025, the company expanded into the UK, launching a new production facility to tap into Europe’s active defence market and government-backed drone initiatives.
Stark’s rapid rise reflects a wider change in European venture capital, where defence and dual-use tech—once largely avoided—is now attracting significant funding. The war in Ukraine, tensions in the Taiwan Strait, and renewed NATO commitments have fueled demand for sovereign defence capabilities and advanced battlefield technologies.
Stark has signaled bigger ambitions with its acquisition of Berlin-based Pleno, a startup developing autonomous navigation software to strengthen its drone swarming capabilities.
This momentum aligns with a wave of startups building AI-powered surveillance, autonomous systems, and next-gen weapons—areas where European founders are still catching up with the US and Israel.
Governments are shifting too: Germany’s “Zeitenwende” has unlocked tens of billions in defence spending, while the UK and France push for more local military tech innovation.
With $100M raised and an expanding global presence, Stark now ranks among Europe’s most well-funded defence startups, alongside Helsing, ARX Robotics, and dual-use player Quantum Systems.
