SUMMARY
- Lithuanian biotech company Genomika has joined the DiDAX project, contributing €600,000 to the total €5.2 million project budget.
DNA-based storage offers a secure and long-lasting way to store data—lasting for centuries or even thousands of years. Unlike hard drives or magnetic tapes, it doesn't need frequent updates or replacements.
Genomika is working on compact DNA reading technologies that can function in challenging environments, like space, where traditional lab tools aren't practical.
These tools could replace bulky lab equipment such as centrifuges during space missions.

The company is also part of the DiDAX project and leads an EU-funded Pathfinder program to build DNA storage hardware.
With over €10 million in combined funding, Genomika is becoming a key player in the future of data storage.
“Our participation in DiDAX represents the natural evolution of our work in DNA data storage,” said Robertas Skliaustas, head of business development at Genomika.
“While our first project focused on building the foundation of DNA storage hardware, this collaboration allows us to optimise the software components and develop practical applications for diverse environments.”
Skliaustas has recently joined the Board of the DNA Data Storage Alliance, representing both Genomika and the European Innovation Council community.
This makes Genomika the first Lithuanian company to be part of this cutting-edge research group.
As part of the DiDAX project, the team is also working on real-world uses of DNA storage—such as embedding DNA in physical products to store detailed information like how they were made, what components they include, and how to use them.
