Finnish WeatherTech Startup Skyfora Raises €6.5 Million to Expand Atmospheric Sensing Network

Jun 9, 2026 | By Kailee Rainse

Finland-based weather intelligence company Skyfora has secured €6.5 million in funding to expand its telecom-powered atmospheric sensing network and strengthen its mission of creating a new global weather data infrastructure for both forecasting and AI applications.

The funding round was led by Ugly Duckling Ventures, with participation from Eviny Ventures, LUMO Labs, and the European Innovation Council Fund. The company also received non-dilutive support from Business Finland, providing additional resources to accelerate the rollout of its weather-monitoring technology.

“We’re turning existing mobile networks into the data layer for next-generation weather forecasting and climate intelligence. With this funding, we’re scaling a global, telecom-powered sensing network to meet accelerating demand from AI-driven forecasting platforms and weather-affected industries unlocking the high-density data needed to operate in an increasingly volatile climate,” says Fredrik Borgström, CEO of Skyfora.

The latest funding round builds on Skyfora's previous fundraising efforts. Founded in 2019, the company raised €4 million last year to accelerate the large-scale deployment of its Telecom GNSS Meteorology technology, which uses telecommunications infrastructure to improve weather monitoring and forecasting capabilities.

The investment also reflects growing investor interest in weather technology, climate analytics, satellite data, and Earth-intelligence platforms. In recent years, companies such as Earth Blox, Hydrosat, and SatVu have secured significant funding rounds to advance solutions in climate-risk assessment, thermal satellite imaging, and infrastructure intelligence.

“When we first invested in Skyfora, there was a technical risk in the feasibility of rolling it out in the eco-system. With the technical risk significantly reduced, the opportunity now lies in commercialising a truly unique atmospheric data platform.

“We are proud to lead this round and support Skyfora as it scales globally and brings a new generation of weather intelligence customers across industries,” adds Andreas Green Rasmussen, GP at Ugly Duckling Ventures.

The newly secured funding will support the expansion of Skyfora’s platform and weather data products, while also helping the company strengthen partnerships with telecom operators and weather industry organizations across Europe, the United States, and the Middle East. As part of its growth strategy, Skyfora is preparing to launch its real-time weather data API and atmospheric intelligence dashboard commercially in mid-2026.

According to the company, its atmospheric data streams are used to power AI-driven weather models, numerical weather prediction systems, and operational platforms serving industries such as energy, defense, logistics, civil protection, and critical infrastructure management.

For telecom operators, Skyfora offers a software-based solution that transforms existing network infrastructure into a new revenue-generating asset. Because the technology leverages current telecom equipment, operators can unlock additional value without incurring extra infrastructure investments or operational costs.

About Skyfora

Skyfora is a Finnish climate technology company that turns existing 5G and telecommunications infrastructure into a large-scale network of advanced weather sensors, helping improve the accuracy of AI-powered weather forecasting. Using its patented technology, Skyfora leverages GPS and Galileo receivers already installed in telecom cell towers. With a simple software upgrade, these towers can detect signal delays in the atmosphere, enabling the collection of high-resolution, real-time 4D weather data without requiring additional hardware installations.
