Tangled argues that while AI-assisted coding has driven a sharp rise in the number of professional developers in recent years, existing tools for contribution and review remain a bottleneck for effective collaboration between humans and AI agents.
To address this, the company is moving beyond centralised legacy systems by building on Bluesky’s AT Protocol, enabling API-less interoperability across an open network. The approach aims to give developers ownership of their work and professional relationships, while allowing both human developers and AI agents to participate natively.
By combining developer tooling with social functionality, Tangled positions itself as a European alternative to platforms such as GitHub, emphasising transparency, openness, and developer sovereignty.
Anirudh Oppiliappan, co-founder of Tangled, comments, “Tangled is built on the belief that code collaboration should be as open and social as the web itself. We are moving beyond the limitations of centralised silos to give developers a platform where they actually own their data and their social graph. This funding allows us to build the foundational layer for software collaboration where both human developers and autonomous AI agents can participate directly in the network.”
