SUMMARY
- Austrian deeptech startup fibionic has secured €3 million in seed funding in a round led by Redstone, alongside Euregio+, Caesar, and Leap435, with additional backing from angel investors.
Lightweight materials are critical across sectors such as sports equipment, UAVs, robotics, mobility and industrial applications, yet composite manufacturing often remains inefficient in terms of automation and material use.
fibionic addresses this with its patented “fibionic fiber placement” (FFP) technology, a bionics-inspired method that aligns fibers precisely along real load paths, similar to structures found in nature like dragonfly wings.
The company says FFP enables sustainable, high-efficiency production with cycle times as short as one minute per component, setting a new benchmark in composite process optimisation.

By reducing material usage while maintaining high performance and stability, fibionic aims to make lightweight engineering more cost-effective, scalable and sustainable across industries including automotive, aerospace, robotics, sporting goods, and defence.
In collaboration with Italian bicycle saddle manufacturer Selle Italia, fibionic has begun scaling production using its FFP technology to optimise weight, stability, and material efficiency. The company says the process can cut material usage by up to 60% and reduce product weight by as much as 50%.
With the new funding, fibionic plans to expand its industrial capabilities and further advance its proprietary technology platform. It will also grow its engineering and business development teams, transition pilot projects into full-scale production and strengthen its broader ecosystem spanning simulation, machinery, materials, licensing, and software solutions.
With fibionic, we are taking high-performance lightweight engineering to the next level. We enable the fast, sustainable and cost-efficient production of extremely high-performing, ultra-light products, said Elias Hirschbichler, co-founder at fibionic.
