eyeo secures €40 million to enhance imaging technology and sensor performance

May 11, 2026 | By Kailee Rainse

eyeo, a Dutch nanophotonic imaging company, has secured €40 million in a Series A funding round led by Innovation Industries, with participation from existing investors including imec.xpand, Invest-NL, Qbic, High-Tech Gründerfonds, and Brabant Development Agency. With this latest investment, the company’s total funding has now reached €55 million.

Founded to commercialise technology originally developed at imec, eyeo develops advanced nanophotonic colour-splitting technology for image sensors used in smartphones, industrial systems, extended reality (XR) devices, smart city technologies, and autonomous applications.

The company’s proprietary NCOS® platform replaces traditional colour filters, which normally block a significant amount of incoming light, with a technology that splits and directs light toward individual pixels. This approach improves light sensitivity, enhances colour accuracy, and delivers higher image resolution. The platform is also compatible with existing CMOS sensor technologies and supports ultra-compact sub-micron pixels for high-performance imaging applications.

According to co-founder and CEO Jeroen Hoet, the funding will support eyeo’s transition from technology development to scaled commercial delivery:

Every modern device that sees the world, from smartphones to autonomous systems, is held back by the same 50-year-old constraint. eyeo removes it at the source. Our technology is proven, patented and validated at a commercial foundry, with tier one customers already engaged.

The funding round also received backing from the European Union through the InvestEU Fund.

eyeo plans to use the newly raised capital to expand its internal engineering capabilities, strengthen collaborations with OEM customers, and speed up the commercial rollout of its imaging technology. The company also intends to invest in next-generation 3D-stacked CMOS image sensors while further growing its integrated circuit (IC) and system architecture teams.
