SUMMARY

  • Irish electric vehicle charging company EasyGo has won a £300 million contract to build and manage EV charging infrastructure across northern Scotland.

This is the company’s biggest deal so far and its first major project outside Ireland.

The 20-year contract is a partnership with Highland, Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, and Moray Councils, making it Scotland’s first multi-council EV infrastructure agreement.

As part of the deal, EasyGo will install 570 new charging points by 2028 and take over running 425 existing chargers (133 DC and 292 AC) in these council areas. The contract also includes plans for over 50 new hub locations to support high-capacity EV charging.

“The Scottish councils’ commitment to becoming Net Zero by 2030 aligns perfectly with EasyGo’s mission. We are thrilled to support them in achieving this goal through our EV charging solutions as we help build the smart towns and cities of the future,” said Ollie Chatten, CEO of EasyGo. “Working with progressive councils across the country to expand EV infrastructure is a vital step toward a more sustainable and future-focused Scotland.”

The Scottish Government is helping fund the contract through its £30 million Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund, with more than £7 million set aside for this project. This is the largest grant given by the fund so far and is expected to bring in an extra £4.9 million from private investors over the next three years.

“I’m pleased that over £7 million from the Scottish Government is transforming public electric vehicle infrastructure across the north of Scotland,” said Fiona Hyslop, Cabinet Secretary for Transport. “Our investment has enabled an innovative procurement partnership across four local authorities that is expected to expand the availability, accessibility, and reliability of public EV charging.”

The Scottish Government plans to stop the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030. EasyGo’s contract supports this goal by helping to add about 6,000 new public charging points across Scotland by the end of the decade.

This deal in Scotland is EasyGo’s first big step outside Ireland. It shows how Irish clean technology startups are growing and looking for chances abroad. As Europe invests more in charging stations, EasyGo will compete with big European operators like Gridserve, Ionity, and Fastned.

By focusing on less populated areas in northern Scotland, where charging infrastructure is limited, EasyGo is helping regional green goals while expanding its business across borders in clean transport.
