SUMMARY

  • Latvia-based Desktop Commander, creator of the open-source Desktop Commander MCP server, has secured €1.1 million in pre-seed funding led by 42CAP, with support from BADideas Fund.

The platform allows AI to directly interact with a user’s computer—managing files, using the terminal, and writing or deploying code from natural language commands. This helps users automate complex workflows without coding.

Founded in March 2025 by Eduards Ruzga, Dmitrijs Sergejevs, and Lauris Lietavietis, all former colleagues from leading tech firms like Infogram and Prezi, Desktop Commander is now among the most-used MCPs on Smithery, Docker MCP Hub, and Claude connectors. Thousands of developers, founders, and professionals use it daily.

Built on Anthropic’s MCP standard, which now powers over 15,000 MCPs, Desktop Commander is currently in beta, with a paid version in development based on community feedback.

I initially developed the first iteration of the product as a custom GPT in 2023 to address a personal work-related challenge; it did not gain substantial interest at that time. However, I revisited the concept when Anthropic introduced their new MCP standard in late 2024, and it experienced significant adoption in April of this year. What I find most rewarding is users expressing that they have acquired capabilities they previously did not realize they possessed, stated Eduards Ruzga, CEO and co-founder.

Desktop Commander will use the new funds to make coding and automation tools easier for non-technical users. The team is currently beta-testing a paid version built on the MCP framework, adding new features and improvements based on feedback from its growing user community.
