SUMMARY

  • Nature Robots, an Osnabrück-based AgTech startup, has secured €4 million in a seed funding round to scale its modular autonomy software for agricultural machinery, grow its team, and open a new office in Munich.

The round was supported by Climentum Capital, Bayern Kapital, and Planetary Impact Ventures.

Nature Robots is a spin-off of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), founded in January 2022. The company develops software that enables agricultural machinery to operate autonomously across large fields, vegetable farms, vineyards, orchards, specialty crops, as well as agri-photovoltaics and agroforestry systems.

The company is building AI-based autonomy solutions for agriculture to address labour shortages caused by an ageing farming workforce and increasing global food demand. Its technology also supports spot farming and advanced decision-support systems.

Nature Robots further states that its platform enables the development of lighter agricultural machinery and tractors, which are important for improving soil health and supporting sustainable soil conservation.

The startup highlights that its modular software enables machine manufacturers to integrate only the functions they need into their equipment, removing the need to spend years developing and maintaining their own autonomy systems.

It provides high-precision navigation and monitoring AI that allows agricultural machines and robots to operate autonomously in both simple and complex environments, ranging from large conventional fields to organic farming and regenerative agriculture systems.

With the new funding, Nature Robots plans to focus on expanding its team, including opening a new office in Munich. Another key priority is accelerating project-specific design-in phases so its autonomous software can be deployed faster across entire machine fleets.

The company is based in the Agrotech Valley near Osnabrück, a leading European hub for agricultural technology. In 2021, the founding team received support through the DFKI under the EXIST Research Transfer Programme. In 2025, Nature Robots secured €2.5 million in non-equity EIC funding from the European Commission along with an additional €4 million equity investment from the EIC Fund.

“Agriculture faces a ‘triple threat’: We must feed nearly 10 billion people by 2050, while the average age of farmers is already 58. At the same time, traditional agricultural systems account for over 30% of global emissions, and 40% of our soil is already degraded. Our autonomy platform enables machinery manufacturers to embark on the necessary transformation very quickly without having to invest billions in in-house development. With this seed round, we can systematically tap into the core markets.” Dr. Sebastian Pütz, CEO and Co-Founder, Nature Robots
