SUMMARY
- AI startup Convergence secures $12 Million in pre-seed funding.
- Convergence's goal is to create an abundant future for all people.
Customers can also be catered for by a proxy. It gives everyone the chance to have a customized AI agent to help with anything from grocery shopping to vacation planning. The fundraising was headed by Balderton Capital and included Shopify Ventures and Salesforce Ventures.
Before joining Cohere, the AI platform for businesses, Marvin and Andy got to know each other at Shopify where they were both working on recommender systems and AI assistants. In the short time since they founded Convergence, they have assembled a group of experts from Google DeepMind, Meta, and PolyAI, among other companies. In under three months, the team went from concept to product launch.

In contrast to most agents, which are made for particular workflows, Proxy will be able to work in a variety of capacities and fields, learning new skills via long-term memory and ongoing experience, just like a human would. Large meta-learning models (LMLM) are a new class of models that are trained to learn how to learn for themselves, which makes this possible.
Marvin Purtorab, co-founder and CEO of Convergence, said: “Imagine an agent that keeps growing and learning whenever you teach them something new. Over time, the agent will take on mundane tasks allowing you to focus on higher-level tasks that are more impactful and also more enjoyable. The key to our approach is the ability for Proxy to learn and memorise tasks on the job, remembering them for the long term and being able to use its memories to extrapolate to new tasks – just as a person would.”
James Wise, Partner at Balderton Capital, said: “Few people have the experience and skill that Marvin and Andy have, which makes them well-placed to take on the complex technical challenge of a product like Proxy.
They have assembled a fantastic team in a few of months, and they are prepared to release an amazing product that has the potential to completely change the way we work and live.
The money will go toward creating cutting-edge models that drive proxy assistance. These models will be more advanced than the AI of today, emphasizing the ability to learn new skills and continue to grow through memory.
