Italy-based Circular Materials has raised €11.8 million through a SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity) financing round.

The company develops technology to recover critical and strategic raw materials from industrial wastewater, helping industries recycle valuable resources.

The funding came from several European investors, including CDP Venture Capital, the European Innovation Council Fund, EIT RawMaterials, 360 Capital, Corbites, and Lumar S.r.l. The investment process was supported by the law firm BonelliErede.

“Europe faces a dual challenge of securing access to critical raw materials while reducing the environmental impact of industrial processes. Wastewater is not simply waste, but a highly valuable and often untapped resource. Our focus remains on building the infrastructure needed to recover valuable materials, support industrial competitiveness, and contribute to more circular supply chains,” said Marco Bersani, Chief Executive Officer of Circular Materials.

Founded in 2019 by Marco Bersani and Andrea Campiglio, Circular Materials has developed a technology that treats industrial wastewater and recovers valuable metals from it.

These recovered metals can be reused as secondary raw materials, helping industries reduce waste and reuse important resources.

Industries such as metal processing, electroplating, battery recycling and chemical manufacturing produce wastewater that contains valuable metals. Traditional treatment methods remove the pollution but usually do not recover these useful materials.

Circular Materials has developed a patented technology called Supercritical Water Precipitation (SWaP™) to recover valuable metals from industrial wastewater.

The company says its technology can recover more than 99% of dissolved metals while also reducing the amount of hazardous waste (sludge) produced during the treatment process.
