Its platform links reusable cups to a visitor’s bank card automatically refunding deposits when items are returned at smart collection points. This reduces waste while improving convenience for both event organisers and attendees.
The system also provides real-time monitoring of return rates, usage patterns, and operational performance, helping organisers optimise logistics and reduce losses. Each item is uniquely tracked to prevent fraud and ensure full traceability.
Borro is already deployed at major Belgian football clubs including Club Brugge and KV Mechelen, with millions of cups processed through its system.
The company has also joined PSG Labs at Station F and is preparing deployment at Paris’ Parc des Princes, while expanding interest grows across festivals, concerts, and entertainment venues.
“The funding will be used to further strengthen our team and accelerate our growth across Europe. We see the same challenges around reuse emerging everywhere. Our ambition is to make Borro the European reference for digital deposit systems,” said Co-founder Kasper Albers.
Explaining why the company does not use RFID technology, Glenn Verhaege, co-founder of Borro, said, “We deliberately decided not to use RFID technology like many other systems. We wanted to build a solution that is simpler and more affordable. That’s why we developed an alternative based on invisible codes that can be read through cameras. We’re happy that we’ve now been able to prove that this also works at scale.”
