Biograil Raises €20Mn to Advance Oral Drug Delivery Technology

Copenhagen-based BioTech company Biograil has raised €20 million in a new funding round. The company is developing an oral drug delivery device that aims to deliver medicines that are usually given through injections.

SUMMARY

  • Copenhagen-based biotech company Biograil has raised €20 million.
  • The round was backed by Verve Ventures, Megatrend Invest and HTGF Opportunity growth fund.
  • The funding will help Biograil advance its technology towards Phase 1 clinical studies.

The funding round was backed by Verve Ventures and Megatrend Invest. HTGF also took part through its HTGF Opportunity growth fund. HTGF had previously led Biograil's Seed funding round in 2019.

In July 2025, Biograil announced the first close of an €8.5 million funding round led by Verve Ventures. The latest €20 million round will support the company's continued development.

Biograil CEO Karsten Lindhardt said, “Excellent to see such strong support from existing internal investors and involve the HTGF Opportunity growth fund in the round. This, in combination with non-diluting funding from partnerships, will enable Biograil to continue to move our BIONDD® technology toward Phase 1 clinical studies. The BIONDD® technology can allow oral delivery of large market compounds for better convenience and medical benefit and, in addition, create development opportunities for new innovative combination products which may never have been feasible or attractive as conventional injectable or oral products”.

Founded in 2019, Biograil uses its own BIONDD technology to make medicines that are usually given through injections available in the form of oral capsules.

The BIONDD device fits inside a standard-size capsule that is easy to swallow. Once the capsule reaches the stomach, it dissolves and releases a small device with a spring-loaded mechanism.

The device then attaches safely to the stomach wall and delivers the medicine into the tissue. From there, the medicine can enter the bloodstream and travel through the body.

Biograil uses a specially developed technology to make these devices through injection moulding. After delivering the medicine, the biodegradable device passes safely through the digestive system.
