SUMMARY
- Reson8, an Amsterdam-based speech AI startup, has raised €5 million in a pre-seed round to scale its European infrastructure and expand specialised speech models across 20+ languages. The round was led by Balderton Capital, with participation from NP Hard.
Founded by Thomas Kluiters, Raoul Ritter, and Jarno Verhagen, Reson8 builds hyper-customised automatic speech recognition (ASR) that adapts to each conversation in seconds, offering higher accuracy across European languages and industry-specific terminology.
While English ASR is largely solved, recognition accuracy drops for European languages, dialects, and sector-specific terms, often requiring manual corrections or broad, imprecise models. Reson8 addresses this by developing acoustically accurate, real-time adaptable models using live context like documents, websites and calendars.

Instead of retraining large models, the platform uses small, pluggable adapters that customise recognition for each conversation, enhancing accuracy without latency.
As a European-built alternative to US-centric providers, Reson8 operates its own infrastructure, ensuring data residency, full stack ownership, and compliance with European regulations, giving customers a competitive edge.
The funding will support expanding European hardware, developing the inference stack, enhancing foundational speech models, and growing the team with a focus on talent density.
“Generic speech models break the moment you leave English, and customers increasingly want control over where their data lives. We feel strongly that Europe doesn’t need to be a fast follower in foundational AI. Instead, we can build the speech layer Europe can rely on: deeply customisable, engineered for accuracy, and run on infrastructure we own,” said Raoul Ritter, co-founder of Reson8.
About Reson8
Reson8 develops hyper-customizable speech recognition for European languages, adapting to any domain healthcare, legal, or customer service in seconds using only text.
