SUMMARY
- German startup 1KOMMA5° has raised €150 million in a Pre-IPO round, bringing its total funding to over €650 million. The company operates Heartbeat AI, a virtual power plant.
- 1KOMMA5° was founded in July 2021 with the aim of making all buildings CO2 neutral.
As more renewable energy from wind and solar is produced, European power grids are becoming more stressed. Heartbeat AI helps by buying electricity when prices are low and selling it back to the grid when prices are high, helping to lower CO2 emissions.
Heartbeat AI also helps stabilize the power grid. Instead of adding a margin to electricity prices, 1KOMMA5° charges a flat software fee and offers real-time, personalized electricity prices, unlike traditional fixed tariffs.
In less than 4 years, this funding round is an important step towards an IPO. It is working to let customers become shareholders and build a European "New Energy" brand.

The company has acquired several businesses, including Arkana Energy, Solaray Energy, ZEWO Energy, and Zonduurzaam.
The funding round was co-led by G2 Venture Partners, with support from 2150, Norrsken, Hamilton Lane, b2venture, Eurazeo, and eCAPITAL, along with other existing investors. The largest new investor is the US pension fund CalSTRS.
According to Micha Grüber, CFO and co-founder of 1KOMMA5°: “Less than 4 years after our foundation, this round is the next building block on our way to the capital market and a huge success for the entire team, especially in the current market environment.”
With the new funding, 1KOMMA5° plans to accelerate its growth and roll out Heartbeat AI across Europe and Australia.
