SUMMARY

  • Switzerland-based MobyFly has raised CHF 10.1M (approx. €10.84M) in Series A funding. The round was led by Fonds Révolution Environnementale et Solidaire, with additional support from Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale’s societal dividend, managed by Crédit Mutuel Impact.

The round included both new and existing private investors, along with CCF Valais, the financial services arm supporting economic development in the Canton of Valais.

Founded in 2020 by Sue Putallaz, Anders Bringdal, and Ricardo Bencatel, MobyFly will use the funding to scale operations, advance R&D, and fast-track the launch of its zero-emission electric hydrofoil ferries.

The investment will aid in industrialising and certifying its technology, progressing hydrofoil development, and expanding into markets across Europe, the Middle East, the U.S., and Asia.

MobyFly also aims to boost production through strategic partnerships and deepen collaborations with manufacturers, ferry operators, and city authorities.

Sue Putallaz, CEO of MobyFly says “This funding round marks a decisive milestone for MobyFly. With the support of Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale and our other investors we are entering a new phase of development, increasing our industrial capabilities and accelerating our commercial deployment. Our mission remains clear: to offer a viable, profitable and environmentally friendly alternative to fossil fuel-powered ferries. This funding will allow us to bring our hydrofoil technology to a global audience supporting authorities and operators in their transition to zero-emission transport solutions.”

MobyFly’s hydrofoil tech uses smart electronics and flight control software to power fast, all-electric passenger boats.

These vessels can travel over 70 km/h without waves, noise, or pollution—using up to 80% less energy and cutting operating costs by up to 60% versus diesel ferries.

The result: clean, quiet, and efficient transport for cities, operators, and passengers.

MobyFly targets the growing need for sustainable ferry solutions on lakes, rivers, and short-to-mid coastal routes.

MobyFly’s founding team brings a strong mix of leadership and technical know-how. CEO Sue Putallaz drives strategy, while Chief Designer Anders Bringdal—a world champion windsurfer—leads foil and propulsion tech. CTO Ricardo Bencatel, with a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering, specializes in flight control and vehicle systems.

Based in Valais, MobyFly has built key partnerships with INESC TEC (R&D, Portugal), Catana Group Portugal (production), Corvus (battery systems), and EODev (hydrogen-powered vessels).

Sabine Schimel, CEO of Crédit Mutuel Impact, says, “MobyFly represents the future of sustainable mobility in the maritime sector. Its innovative hydrofoil technology is a very promising and effective solution for reducing emissions, lowering energy consumption and improving operational efficiency. This investment is perfectly in line with our commitment to promoting efficient and scalable solutions in the transport sector. We are proud to support MobyFly in bringing its zero-emission transport technology to market.”

The Series A funding sets MobyFly on track to launch its first zero-emission hydrofoil boats by fall 2025 following the successful development of its 10-metre MBFY10 prototype. The company has also landed its first customer contract for pre-series production.

As cities seek cleaner mobility solutions, MobyFly aims to reinvent passenger water transport with high-performance alternatives to diesel ferries—helping cut emissions and modernize maritime transit.
