Sports Impact Technologies: The Startup Protecting the Future of Sport with Smart Sporting Goods
Aug 20, 2025 | By Kailee Rainse

Founded by Eóin Tuohy at NovaUCD, this Dublin startup, Sports Impact Technologies, is reimagining athlete performance and injury prevention through cutting-edge tech.
Dublin-based, this young startup is rewriting the playbook for sports performance and injury prevention. Sports Impact Technologies was born out of a blend of passion for sport, frustration with preventable injuries, and a vision for a smarter, safer future for athletes at every level.
The Kickoff: From Academic to Entrepreneur
Eóin Tuohy, with a background in sports science and biomechanics, spent years researching how athletes move, train, and — all too often — get injured.
After working with elite teams and studying how high-impact sports affect the human body, he began noticing a critical gap between what was possible in labs and what was actually being used on the field.
Tuohy had access to a lot of important scientific data and advanced tools that could help athletes perform better or stay healthier. However, he noticed a problem: these resources weren't actually being delivered to athletes at the right time or in the right setting — like during training, competition, or recovery — when they could have the biggest impact.
Determined to bridge that gap, Eóin took a bold leap. He left academia and founded Sports Impact Technologies with one clear mission: to bring lab-grade insight to the locker room, helping athletes perform better while staying safer.

Building Something That Matters
Eóin's spark of realization quickly evolved into a startup. With a dedicated team of engineers, data scientists, and sports performance experts, he set out to build something transformative.
The result was a breakthrough: a smart, wearable sensor that tracks impacts and movement in real time — giving athletes and coaches the insights they need, exactly when they need them.
This isn't just about tracking steps or heart rate — Sports Impact Technologies specializes in identifying potentially dangerous collisions, impacts, or repetitive strain that could lead to injury.
Whether it's a rugby player absorbing high tackles, a GAA star repeatedly sprinting, or a young athlete pushing through fatigue, their technology translates physical data into actionable insights.
What they're doing is preventative care, giving coaches, medics, and athletes the tools to make smarter decisions before an injury happens.

Sports Impact Technologies: Building a Safer Future in Sport
Sports Impact Technologies goes beyond just tracking data — it helps athletes train smarter, stay safer, and perform better.
Using proprietary software and AI-powered analytics, the system monitors impact forces, acceleration, and biomechanics to spot early signs of injury risk. It doesn't just collect data — it makes sense of it.
With intuitive dashboards and real-time alerts, coaches can quickly identify issues like overtraining, excessive head impacts, or inefficient movement. That means faster, smarter decisions — from substitutions to personalized training plans.
Already gaining traction in contact sports like rugby, Gaelic football, and soccer, the technology is redefining athlete care. It's where advanced sports science meets practical coaching — all to build a safer future in sport.
The Vision: Safer Sports for All
Looking ahead, Eóin and his team are clear on their vision: a world where data doesn't just improve performance — it protects the people who play.
They're currently working on expanding their platform to include predictive injury models, as well as collaborating with sports governing bodies to establish new safety standards. With eyes on international markets and partnerships already forming, the team sees potential far beyond Irish shores.
At the end of the day, their goal is simple: to help athletes give their best — and and sports people go home injury-free. That's what drives them.
