Spanish Startup Voltrac Secures €2M To launch Its Autonomous Tractor Platform

Jun 6, 2025 | By Kailee Rainse

Valencia-based DeepTech startup Voltrac has launched its autonomous electric tractor platform, built for use in agriculture and frontline logistics. Alongside the launch, the company raised €2 million in funding, with support from investors FoodLabs and Antler.

“We’re not just building a better tractor. We’re creating a new paradigm of autonomous, software-driven ground vehicles,” said Thomas Hubregtsen, CEO of Voltrac.

Aguirre comes from a family business, Aguirre Agricola, which supplies farm equipment in over 25 countries. He also worked on propulsion systems for eVTOLs and supersonic aircraft.

Thomas has experience integrating AI into BMW’s future vehicles, building quantum AI at Google X, and co-founding Extropic to develop thermodynamic AI systems.

“Farming was built for a world that changes slowly, but with pesticide-resistant pests and unpredictable climates we need to adapt fast. Our tractors learn as they work,” said Francisco, CTO. “Mastering new challenges like resistant weeds or heatwaves quickly.”

Tractors are the backbone of farming, but they still use old-style engines with complex parts that are costly, can break easily, and cause pollution.

Voltrac is changing this by removing the traditional drivetrain and using electric motors on each wheel. This design cuts 70% of the complicated parts, lowering maintenance and running costs by about 30% each year.

What makes Voltrac special is its software. They are first automating how the tractor drives and offering a platform where others can connect their tools and devices to work with the tractor safely.

But their system does more than just drive the tractor. It uses advanced learning to help the tractor adjust to different crops, weather, and land across Europe.

Thanks to their farming experience, Voltrac’s tractor can also work on rough terrains. With added features like a flatbed, protection from interference, and drones, it can quietly carry 4,000 kg to supply frontline areas and manage AI tasks for the whole group.

“We believe industry-defining solutions emerge where robotics, AI, and critical infrastructure converge. Voltrac isn’t just optimising agriculture and defense logistics. They’re redefining what autonomous vehicles can achieve, setting a new standard for efficiency and adaptability,” said Christophe Maire, Managing Partner at Atlantic Labs & FoodLabs.”

Voltrac aims to serve both farming and defense markets, targeting the €70 billion agriculture tractor market and the €30 billion military logistics sector.

The company is talking with NATO and working with partner Aguirre Agricola to hold joint sales events at farming cooperatives.

They are actively testing their tractors and plan to deliver to customers starting in early 2026. To grow their production, they plan to raise more funds later this year.

About Voltrac

Founded in 2024 by aerospace engineer Francisco Infante Aguirre and DeepTech expert Thomas Hubregtsen, Voltrac is redesigning the tractor from the ground up. Instead of using traditional mechanical systems, they are building a modular, software-driven vehicle focused on simplicity, reliability, and autonomy.
