SUMMARY

  • Sensofusion a Helsinki-based DefenceTech firm focused on anti-drone systems, has acquired Atol Aviation and launched Sensofusion Aviation.

While financial details remain undisclosed, the acquisition strengthens Sensofusion’s capabilities in aircraft and unmanned system manufacturing.

The deal enhances production capacity and supports the development of advanced air-to-ground surveillance solutions.

The company plans to manufacture aircraft platforms at a former Finnish Air Force base enabling expanded reconnaissance capabilities and improved wide-area monitoring.

Sensofusion, founded in 2016, develops advanced solutions for drone detection, signals intelligence, and countermeasures.

Its flagship system, Airfence, passively detects drones and provides real-time location data of both drones and their operators, serving government clients across multiple regions.

Atol Aviation established in 2021 designs and manufactures specialized aircraft in Halli Finland. Operating from a former air force base it has developed models like the Atol Aurora amphibious aircraft and Atol Protector built for defence and demanding operational environments.

Airborne drone detection enables significantly wider coverage compared to ground based systems as elevated sensors avoid obstructions like terrain forests and buildings. This enhances monitoring range and performance particularly for large scale and dynamic environments.

Sensofusion plans to begin production of new solutions at the Atol facility, while expanding operations and hiring additional staff. The company expects to reveal more details about its upcoming products in June 2026.

“Air-to-ground operations are familiar territory for Sensofusion. Many of our Airfence customers have already installed our products on helicopters, aircraft and drones. Signal dominance cannot happen only from the ground, and radio transmitters are better detected from the air,” said Tuomas Rasila, founder and CEO of Sensofusion.

“This is a great step forward for Atol Aviation. With Sensofusion, we have genuine synergy in expertise and execution. Both companies design and manufacture demanding products in Finland using Finnish engineering expertise,” said Anssi Rekula, founder and CEO of Atol Aviation.
