Rio Tinto Appoints Trudi Charles As Chief Legal Officer

Rio Tinto has announced the appointment of Trudi Charles as Chief Legal Officer, Governance & Corporate Affairs, succeeding Isabelle Deschamps. She will join the company on 1 August 2026.

Trudi currently serves as Deputy General Counsel and Senior Vice President Legal, Supply, Trading & Shipping at BP plc.

She brings more than 20 years of experience at BP, where she has held a range of senior legal positions across the downstream and supply, trading & shipping businesses.

Prior to joining BP, Trudi spent nearly eight years with Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer in London and Hong Kong.

She is admitted to practice by the Law Society of England & Wales, the Law Society of Hong Kong, and the Queensland Law Society.

This announcement has been authorised for release to the market by Andy Hodges, Rio Tinto’s Group Company Secretary.
