SUMMARY

  • French startup PyxiScience, which offers an AI-powered adaptive math platform, has announced a €2 million funding round to support its international expansion.

The funding round saw participation from Newfund, Invess Île-de-France Amorçage (managed by INCO Ventures), and BPI France.

“All teachers know: to help students improve, you need to assign frequent homework and provide detailed feedback. But with hundreds of students and a shortage of teachers, this is impossible. Until now, no AI could recognise advanced handwritten math and follow reasoning step-by-step to verify its validity. Our technology solves that issue, with over 90% success. PyxiScience empowers everyone by multiplying resources without replacing human teachers. Our goal is to support student success through personalised learning,” say Founders Joachim Lebovits and Jacques Lévy Véhe.

The company was co-founded by Joachim Lebovits, a Ph.D. in Mathematics and lecturer at Sorbonne Paris North University and NYU Paris, and Jacques Lévy Véhel, a former research director at INRIA and founder of LegalTech startup Case Law Analytics, which was acquired by LexisNexis in 2023.

PyxiScience is already being used by over 10,000 students at institutions like Sorbonne Paris North University and NYU Paris, and is now gearing up for international growth.

Built by experts in mathematics and AI, the platform is designed for high school and university students and teachers. It offers ready-to-use scientific content and allows teachers to create and assign homework in just a few clicks.

PyxiScience’s AI helps with all types of grading, making the process up to 10 times faster.

For students, PyxiScience offers auto-generated exercises that adjust to their skill level. They can track their progress anytime and get personalized guidance as they learn.

“PyxiScience meets a pressing need in higher education: freeing up educators’ time while better supporting students at scale. Their proprietary technology, born from years of research, paves the way for a new generation of learning tools. At Newfund, we will actively support their go-to-market strategy with a focus on North American universities,” said Marjolaine Catil, Investment Director at Newfund.

PyxiScience plans to expand to regional high schools by the 2025 school year and start its launch in North America in January 2026. The company also aims to enter the €10+ billion global higher education market, with future plans to cover all STEM subjects and expand into China and India.

“We believe in PyxiScience’s vision to build AI tools that promote educational equity. Their ability to democratise pedagogical excellence while preserving the teacher’s role aligns with our vision of socially responsible tech progress,” concluded Timothée Metz, Investment Director at INCO Ventures.
