SUMMARY

  • Warsaw-based VC firm Movens Capital has launched a €60 million multi-stage Fund 2 to invest in Founders from Central and Eastern Europe, providing first checks of €250k to €3 million for startups at pre-Seed, Seed, and Series A and Series A+ stages.

The fund is backed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), PFR Ventures, and over 80 startup Founders, tech operators and seasoned entrepreneurs. This follows the success of Fund 1, which helped organise over €110 million in follow-on funding for its portfolio companies.

Artur Banach, Managing Partner at Movens Capital, said: “This region never lacked talent. What’s missing is the capital and operational support needed to turn early traction into global growth. Movens Capital is the launch pad for ambitious CEE Founders aiming for global leadership. As former tech entrepreneurs, we actively support portfolio companies with meaningful operational expertise and strategic guidance. Backed by a uniquely engaged community of top-tier tech executives and advisors, we leverage their deep industry experience and networks to help founders rapidly scale and achieve lasting success globally.”

Movens’ portfolio includes companies like Alokai (formerly Vue Storefront), Packhelp (exited), SKY ENGINE AI, Talkie.ai, Certifier, Trasti, Doctor.one, and Fenige (exited). Startups backed by Movens have secured funding from top global VCs, completed acquisitions, and scaled internationally.

Anne Fossemalle, Director, Equity Funds at the EBRD, said: “We are delighted to back Movens’ new fund and help empower the next generation of tech founders in Central and Eastern Europe. Supporting the growth of the venture capital and private equity ecosystem is a key priority for the Bank in the region, and we are confident that this partnership will scale up new innovative and high-potential companies.”

Movens Capital believes that while startup formation and ecosystem value continue to rise in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), the region still faces a major funding gap. In 2024, VC investment in CEE dropped by 23%, and the number of transactions has fallen by over 70% since 2022, even though the startup landscape keeps growing (Dealroom, 2025).

Movens highlights a significant disparity in per capita VC investment between Western Europe (€85) and CEE (€13). Out of 26,000+ startups in the region, fewer than 10% raise a VC round annually. Series A and growth-stage capital are especially limited, often pushing founders to relocate or pause growth.

With Fund 2, Movens aims to close this gap by investing in around 30 high-potential startups across sectors like enterprise software, AI, ClimateTech, FinTech, healthcare, e-commerce infrastructure, and the future of work.

The fund will focus on Central and Eastern Europe, including Poland, the Balkans, Baltics, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and also support founders from Ukraine and Moldova.

Most investments will be led by Movens and split between seed and Series A/growth rounds, targeting both regional founders and CEE diaspora building global ventures.

Bartłomiej Samsonowicz, Investment Director at PFR Ventures, said: “Following our support for Movens Fund 1 under the EU-funded program, we are pleased to continue our collaboration with Movens Fund 2 through our balance-sheet-financed fund of funds. Movens’ team has consistently demonstrated a high level of professionalism in both their investment processes and investor relations. We are confident that they will play an important role in addressing the financing gap for innovative startups across multiple stages.”

Movens is already deploying capital from Fund 2, with the first set of deals set to be announced this summer.

The firm will continue backing startups in areas where Central and Eastern European founders are leading innovation—such as AI-native infrastructure, embedded financial services, and climate resilience technologies.
