Patchwork Health Multi-Million Dollar Business Story: From College Friendship To Entrepreneurship

Nov 11, 2024 | By Team SR

Patchwork Health's journey from friendship to entrepreneurship started when founders, Dr Anas Nader and Dr Jing Ouyang identified a gap in the Healthcare sector.

With a groundbreaking idea, they set out to empower the healthcare workforce in partnership with the National Health Service (NHS), a government-run healthcare system in the UK. Despite no background, the founders chose a challenging path of entrepreneurship.

However, their efforts paid off, and Patchwork Health has been recognized as one of the UK's fastest-growing digital health startups. It is estimated that Patchwork Health generates between $10 million and $50 million in revenue, with an enterprise valuation of between $106 million and $158 million.

Innovative Mind At Patchwork Healthcare:

Dr Anas Nader and Dr Jing Ouyang are the innovative minds behind their startup, Patchwork Healthcare. They met while studying medicine at Imperial College London. What started as a college friendship has now blossomed into an incredible journey of co-founders building something bigger together. Through their collective efforts, both friends are on a mission to address the worldwide healthcare workforce crisis by utilizing flexible working arrangements.

Dr Anas Nader

Meet Dr Anas Nader, the CEO and co-founder of Patchwork Health. He completed his bachelor of medicine at Imperial College London from 2010 to 2014. Anas is not just an entrepreneur; he is a medical doctor, tech executive, board advisor, public speaker and published academic.

Dr Jing Ouyang

Meet the COO and co-founder of Patchwork Health. Jing completed his Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at Imperial College London. Jing is not just an entrepreneur; he is a doctor, health executive, board advisor and published academic with a passion for healthcare innovation and technology.

Anas completed his graduation in 2014, and Jing graduated in 2015. However, they were able to keep their bond strong. After completing their graduation, they both moved in different directions. Anas relocated to Kent, and Jing moved to Liverpool. From that point on, their story completely changed the game.

Today, duo entrepreneurs are transforming the healthcare industry by allowing employees to work from home, using workers' resources best, reducing hiring expenses by millions of dollars, and encouraging greater employee engagement.

Inspiration Behind Patchwork Health:

The journey of Patchwork Health started when Anas and Jing noticed a gap in the healthcare sector. Both Anas and Jing were in their high-flying career. Once, Jing organized an additional health conference in London and invited his more connecting people, including Anas.

They started discussing, and one of the topics was "Temporary Staffing." During that time, they realized they were on different sides of the country but were facing the same challenge. The challenge was the healthcare workforce crisis.

However, due to being a doctor, they had no experience with entrepreneurship. Nevertheless, they were determined to address this problem. Duo friends collected their efforts and started working on a mission: "to unleash the power of flexible working to solve the global healthcare workforce crisis."

The solution: Patchwork Health

Finally, in 2016, Anas and Jing took a leap of faith and launched their startup, Patchwork Health. This staffing healthcare platform addresses the global healthcare workforce crisis using the leading technology and deep expertise.

At Patchwork Health, they not only focus on growing staff numbers, reducing agency costs, improving patient safety, and saving time, but also on their healthcare experience, passion for change, and hard work, which are bringing a positive change.

Challenges Faced By Patchwork Health:

The initial and most significant challenge in front of them was to think about entrepreneurship because they both were from medical backgrounds.

Furthermore, one of the biggest challenges was launching a technology-based healthcare solution because each healthcare organization has its process, rules, and system for doing things.

But they never allowed these challenges to be obstacles. They carefully understood the unique needs of the doctors, nurses, and other staff, dedicatedly worked on them, and created a solution, Patchwork Health.

Future strategy at Patchwork Health:

This healthcare workforce management platform has a clear vision for the future:

1. Expanding Business

Patchwork Health plans to expand its business from the UK to European and international markets.

2. Supporting Healthcare Staff Using AI:

Anas says, "AI can support healthcare staff by automating administrative tasks and providing diagnostic solutions."

This journey from medical background to entrepreneurship is an amazing example that no matter what your background is, nothing can stop you if you want to bring a change.
