This money will help Origin grow its engineering and sales teams and speed up the development of its main product, BEAK. This system has already gained interest from NATO-aligned countries and has shown its effectiveness in real battlefield situations.

Filling a crucial gap in defence technology

The conflict in Ukraine has shown how quickly warfare is changing prompting countries to rethink their defence systems. Traditional precision weapons can be very expensive, making them less accessible and flexible.

While there are alternatives like loitering and FPV (First Person View) drones, they have weaknesses, such as being vulnerable to electronic interference and having limited range. Origin’s technology aims to fill this gap by offering a cost-effective and strong option for defence forces that keeps important parts reusable, which helps lower deployment costs.

BEAK: A new standard in cost-effectiveness and precision

Origin’s main product, the BEAK, is a portable drone designed for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR). Unlike traditional weapons that lose valuable parts when they hit a target, the BEAK is built to keep its reusable components, which helps lower operational costs significantly.

Agris Kipurs, co-founder and CEO of Origin, said: “We find ourselves in a new era where security can no longer be taken for granted and warfare is evolving rapidly. We saw an opportunity to leverage our decade of experience building autonomous drones for the demanding needs of action sports enthusiasts to create an alternative to today’s expensive precision-guided munitions.”

Andris K. Berzins, Partner at Change Ventures, said: “Having known Agris and Ilya for a decade through their successful launch of the world’s leading action sports drone Airdog, I knew this team is unlike the many that have started learning how to build a drone startup only since the Ukraine invasion two years ago. Their ability to combine this expertise with an ambitious vision to reshape the precision weapons market, and their remarkable traction within the past 18 months, made investing in Origin an easy choice.”
