SUMMARY

  • Octostar an Ireland-based startup developing AI software for national security, law enforcement, and financial institutions, has extended its Seed funding round, bringing the total raised to €6.1 million.

The extension was supported by existing strategic and venture capital investors, along with new participation from Milan-based VC firm The Techshop and additional national institutional investors.

Founded in 2023 by Dr. Giovanni Tummarello, Robert Fuller, Simone Scarduzio and Varun Sharma, Octostar aims to equip investigators with a highly advanced and adaptable intelligence platform.

The company says its platform blends powerful analytics with full data control and use-case sovereignty. It can run entirely in air-gapped (No Cloud/No Internet) environments, supports intelligence-grade ABAC/RBAC access controls, and is built to give organisations complete ownership over how it’s used.

This allows clients to tailor the system to their workflows, data sources, and compliance needs without relying on vendor support.

Octostar has also introduced Octobox, a purpose-built tactical appliance delivered as a pre-configured “cluster in a box.” It requires no cloud connectivity or external data exposure and is ready for immediate deployment.

Its platform offers capabilities such as link analysis, communications intelligence, document intelligence, and GenAI-powered agents, all within a fully sovereign and extensible architecture.

These tools support law enforcement by enabling data extraction, AI-assisted analysis and advanced analytics for investigations. Intelligence agencies can use it to derive insights from intercepted signals, identify hidden connections and stay ahead of evolving security threats.

Additionally, features like real-time visualisation and AI-driven analysis help organisations detect and prevent fraud, strengthening financial security.

“Nations are re-evaluating their technology supply chains for intelligence and security, while they’re in extreme need for AI that can be utilised ASAP. The question is no longer whether sovereign alternatives are needed, but how quickly they can be deployed. We are scaling delivery faster than we ever anticipated to meet that demand,” said Giovanni Tummarello, CEO and Chief Product Officer of Octostar.

Gianluca D’Agostino, co-founder and Managing Partner of The Techshop, said, “Giovanni and his talent-dense team represent a rare combination of deep domain expertise, which stems from spending over a decade building software for investigative intelligence, coupled with hunger for disruption. The need for sovereign AI-native intelligence platforms is accelerating fast and Octostar is one of the very few teams delivering on such demand. We are excited to support the company’s next phase of international growth.”
