London-based SurrealDB, the developer of a multi-model, AI-native database has raised an additional $23 million in Series A funding, increasing the total round size to $38 million.

Chalfen Ventures and Begin Capital joined existing investors FirstMark and Georgian in the extension, with Mike Chalfen joining the board as a director.

SurrealDB is a cloud-native, multi-model database built for real-time and AI-driven applications. The platform combines structured queries, graph traversal, embedded business logic and AI capabilities to simplify data infrastructure while maintaining scalability and flexibility for developers.

The funding extension comes alongside the general availability of SurrealDB 3.0, described as the company’s most stable, high-performance, and enterprise-ready release to date.

Developed in Rust, SurrealDB 3.0 unifies multiple data models within a single system, including relational, document, graph, time-series, vector, search, geospatial, and key-value data. Its real-time architecture is designed to reduce the complexity and cost of managing multiple databases and integrating them via additional APIs.

A key focus of the release is AI agent memory and context management, enabling models to maintain consistent information and relationships as datasets grow. New features support agent memory and context graphs directly within the database, keeping data and logic closely connected.

The new funding will accelerate product development and market adoption, with priorities including reliability, performance, security, cloud capabilities, and enterprise readiness. SurrealDB also plans to expand its team to scale its cloud platform and strengthen support for production deployments.
