SUMMARY

  • London-based startup Dragonfly has raised €3 million in a pre-seed round, led by Episode 1 with participation from Dreamcraft, Portfolio Ventures, and angel investors including Sam Bourton and Markus Villig.

Founded in December 2024 by Sean King and Sven Sabas, Dragonfly uses AI to make software decision-making faster and smarter. Its platform, now publicly available, acts as a software discovery and advisory system, analysing over 250,000 products to match businesses with the right digital tools—offering insights akin to a professional solutions architect in seconds.

With the growing complexity of software options, Dragonfly addresses challenges around reliability, interoperability, security and access to expert guidance, helping organisations navigate AI-driven innovation efficiently.

Sven Sabas, Co-founder at Dragonfly, said: “Sean and I have spent our careers building startups, and we learned firsthand that a company’s success is tied to the technology it chooses. These decisions can make or break products, and often shape the long-term fate of an entire business. As seasoned engineering and data leaders, we’ve built tech infrastructure from the ground up, making tough, high-stakes calls along the way. We didn’t always get things right. Tech moves quickly but there’s a lack of reliable, up-to-date guidance to make these critical decisions. That gap revealed a huge opportunity for us to help organisations unlock their true potential and embrace modern tools with confidence in the age of AI. We’re building Dragonfly to be the technology companion we always wished we had – one that empowers every company to make faster, better choices about the software they use to build and scale.”

Dragonfly’s conversational AI lets users ask questions in natural language like “Which project management tool suits a five-person team, integrates with Google Calendar and offers a free plan?” and delivers tailored recommendations instantly. It can also address complex queries such as finding GDPR-compliant tools compatible with AWS for financial services.

Later this year, Dragonfly will launch its enterprise platform, enabling organisations to map, manage, and optimise their technology ecosystems. Its proprietary “digital fingerprinting” technology creates a detailed blueprint of each company’s software architecture, providing customised recommendations based on business needs and growth stage.

The new funding will enhance Dragonfly’s data capabilities, develop advanced features, and advance its mission to build an “Automated Solutions Architect” that helps businesses design and optimise their technology stacks efficiently.

Hector Mason, General Partner at Episode 1, said: “Before Dragonfly, it was almost impossible to gather enough context about software tools to truly understand their capabilities, and whether they fit seamlessly within an existing stack. By solving this critical problem, made even more urgent with the rapid adoption of AI, Dragonfly has the potential to make every company on the planet operate more effectively.”
