SUMMARY
- Lightsonic is a UK–Norwegian deeptech startup, has raised €3.3 million in seed funding to grow its AI-powered software for monitoring infrastructure using fiber optic networks.
Lightsonic’s software turns existing telecom fiber cables into large-scale monitoring systems without needing any new hardware. By using machine learning, the system can detect issues like underwater intrusions, gas leaks, or tampering with physical infrastructure.
This means telecom cables can now also act as security and environmental sensors for cities and industrial areas, on top of their regular use for internet and communication.
The company plans to expand its team, speed up development, and begin commercial launches across Europe and beyond. With offices in Norway and the UK, Lightsonic is well placed to serve both energy-heavy Northern markets and urban areas aiming to modernize infrastructure.

Unlike many other solutions, Lightsonic’s platform is software-only, making it cheaper and faster to roll out on a large scale. This gives the startup an edge in both public infrastructure projects and private industry, where monitoring and environmental safety are increasingly important.
“This investment marks a significant milestone in our mission to enhance the safety, sustainability, and efficiency of critical infrastructure worldwide. We are grateful for the trust and support of our investors as we bring our cutting-edge fiber optic sensing solutions to market,” said Tommy Langnes, co-founder and CEO.
Lightsonic is already focusing on important real-world uses. Besides detecting threats and security issues, its software can also spot pipeline leaks, boost network efficiency, and cut maintenance costs for water and energy systems.
Because it serves both security and environmental needs, the technology is useful for defence-related infrastructure as well as eco-focused utility companies.
“Lightsonic's approach to fiber optic sensing is a game-changer for critical infrastructure monitoring,” said Paavo Räisänen, Partner at Maki.vc. “At Maki.vc, we back deep-tech companies that redefine industries, and we are excited to support their journey in bringing this technology to the global market.”
Nicolas Chow, Principal at RAISE Ventures, added: “The pressure on infrastructure is higher than ever, and the need for Lightsonic’s scalable technology has never been clearer. Their proactive monitoring of large networks—like water, gas, and cable—can significantly reduce environmental impact and operational risks.”
