SUMMARY

  • Madrid-based Lightbase an AI-powered developer tools platform, announced its official launch alongside a €2.2 million pre-seed funding round.

The investment will support Lightbase’s mission to help engineering teams work faster by tackling a key challenge: knowledge fragmentation.

The funding round was led by Picus Capital, with participation from Kfund, Helloworld, and angel investors Jorge Poyatos, Albert Nieto, Christian Beedgen, and Rodrigue Schäfer.

In growing engineering teams, the main productivity challenge isn’t writing code—it’s finding and sharing the knowledge needed to make changes. Developers spend only about a third of their time coding, while the rest is consumed by meetings, interruptions, and coordination. Senior engineers bear the heaviest load, answering questions and mentoring others.

The issue worsens for new hires, who face steep learning curves and rely heavily on teammates due to the lack of a self-serve way to navigate the codebase. When experienced engineers switch teams or leave, critical knowledge is lost, creating costly gaps that are difficult to close.

Lightbase, an AI-powered code intelligence platform, addresses this challenge by transforming codebases and engineering tools into a dynamic knowledge system. It integrates with repositories and workflows, analyzes code, and uses AI to provide instant, accurate insights about system functionality—far beyond standard AI coding assistants. The outcome: fewer interruptions, faster onboarding, retained institutional knowledge, and a significant boost in engineering productivity.

As engineering teams grow and systems become more complex, Lightbase provides engineers, product managers, and new hires with fast insights into architecture, data flows, and dependencies. This reduces interruptions to senior developers and can recover up to 50% of time typically lost to onboarding, meetings, and repeated explanations.

The pre-seed funding will accelerate product development and expand Lightbase’s engineering team. After strong early customer results, the platform is now being made available to more companies across Europe and North America.
