SUMMARY
- Le Fourgon, a startup based in Marquette-lez-Lille, is leading the way in reusable glass deposits.
- Le Fourgon was founded in 2021 by Charles Christory, Stéphane Dessein, and Maxime Tharin to bring back the glass deposit system in France and cut down on single-use packaging waste.
The funding was raised in two phases: €5.7 million from key investors, including ID4 Ventures, Teampact Ventures, and La Poste Ventures, with new backers like Bred, Noshaq, and Future Positive Capital. An additional €2.5 million came from 1,590 individual investors via the sustainable investment platform Lita.
Charles Christory, CEO and Co-founder of Le Fourgon said, “We are deeply grateful to our investors and the 1590 citizens who have joined us in this adventure. This contribution to our Series A not only strengthens our capacity for action; it testifies to a collective commitment to a fundamental change in our consumption patterns. At a time when France has set itself the target of reducing the use of plastic packaging by 50% by 2030, we want to accelerate the democratization of reuse and make deposits an essential reflex. Because changing our habits to protect the environment should be within everyone’s reach, ”.

Le Fourgon reports that 36 million plastic bottles are bought daily in France, contributing to 4.5 million tonnes of plastic waste each year. Reusing containers helps reduce energy use by 75%, CO2 emissions by 79%, and water consumption by 33%.
The company provides a home delivery service for returnable products, including drinks, groceries, hygiene items, and household goods. Customers order online, receive deliveries by electric vehicle, and return empty containers on their next order. These are then cleaned and reused, supporting a zero-waste system.
Since its launch, Le Fourgon has expanded to 20 cities and over 2,500 towns, preventing 25 million single-use bottles and 9,250 tonnes of plastic waste. Its 65,000 customers have cut their daily waste by a third, with containers reused up to 40 times.

Le Fourgon previously raised €10 million in a Series A round in November 2023. Its goal remains the same: making deposit returns mainstream and encouraging reusable containers in every French household. To support this, the company plans to expand to two new towns in early 2025.
It will also grow its range of returnable products, focusing on groceries and household goods. Additionally, Le Fourgon aims to expand its B2B segment, which currently makes up 12% of its business, and hire 100 new employees. By 2028, the company expects to have reused 100 million containers.
Maxime Getten, Investment Director at Lita said, “From the outset, Le Fourgon was an obvious choice for Lita. Fitting in perfectly with our impact investment thesis, France’s leading deposit company, and a pioneer in reverse logistic, stood out for its strike force and rapid execution. At Lita, we are convinced that it is the company best placed to massively increase the use of deposits in France and Europe, while making reuse the only credible alternative to plastic recycling or bio-sourced materials,".
Hervé Cuviliez, Co-founder of ID4 Ventures said, “We’re delighted to continue supporting Le Fourgon in its development. Their innovative vision and commitment to a sustainable model are perfectly in line with our values at ID4 Ventures. Participating in this new round of funding is a way of reaffirming our confidence in their ability to transform the sector in a positive and impactful way,”.
About Le Fourgon
Le Fourgon was founded in 2021 by Charles Christory, Stéphane Dessein, and Maxime Tharin to bring back the glass deposit system in France and cut down on single-use packaging waste. The idea came from noticing that recycling bins were filling up faster than they were being emptied, with no easy way to reduce waste, especially plastic bottles.
