British legaltech startup Lawhive has raised €37.9 million in Series A funding to support its expansion into the United States. The investment will help improve access to affordable legal services through its AI-powered platform.
The funding round was co-led by Google Ventures (GV) and TQ Ventures, with participation from Balderton Capital, Jigsaw, Episode 1, and footballers Harry Maguire and Reece James.
This follows the company's €11 million Seed funding in April 2024. The new funding will be used to grow operations, improve the AI platform, and establish a presence in key US markets.

Pierre Proner, CEO and co-founder of Lawhive, stated: “By augmenting the work of human lawyers with our technology, we’re addressing a critical need in the US market and unlocking new opportunities for millions of US attorneys.”
Lawhive was founded in 2019 by Pierre Proner (CEO), Jaime Van Oers (CTO), and Flinn Dolman. The company combines AI with human expertise to make legal processes more efficient. Its platform automates administrative tasks for lawyers, allowing them to focus on legal work and reducing costs for clients by up to 50%.
At the heart of Lawhive's platform is an AI lawyer named Lawrence. Built on Lawhive's own advanced language model Lawrence outperforms other models in legal work. Lawrence also passed the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) with an 81% score, well above the required 55%.

Lawrence can already handle legal work like a junior lawyer or paralegal, helping senior lawyers focus on more important parts of a case and supporting their clients.
Lawhive says its services have helped thousands of people with legal issues such as family and property disputes, consumer rights, and small business matters.
The company now aims to close the justice gap in the US by offering accessible and affordable legal support.
Schuster Tanger, Co-Founder/Co-Managing Partner at TQ Ventures, added: “The US legal market, arguably the largest in the world, is ripe for disruption. The pressing need for affordable legal access makes it the perfect environment for innovative tech solutions like Lawhive’s.”
