Journal Lab, situated in Rotterdam, raises €1.2 million in funding. Witte's quest started in 2011 when she searched for a digital platform to record her travels during a four-month trip to South America.

Dissatisfied with the available opportunities, she wrote a business plan, obtained capital from Qredits, a microcredit provider, and started developing an application.

Strong marketing efforts will be the focus of the latest €1.2 million investment, which includes a substantial €1 million from an unidentified investor, in order to drive expansion outside of organic methods.

The company's current main markets, after the Netherlands, are the US and Australia. The emphasis will be on English-speaking nations. After eight months, a platform called Travel Diaries was created, which lets visitors record their adventures in a digital journal with pictures and order a printed book as a memento.

Even while the digital version was well-liked, hosting became expensive. Up until Transavia Ventures purchased a 20% share in the venture in 2019, Witte ran it in addition to her job as a travel journalist. This allowed her to concentrate solely on the company.

The income model was reevaluated in response to the start of the COVID-19 epidemic. Three membership plans were established by Travel Diaries to accommodate different user demands and preferences. Witte expanded the platform to include Baby Diaries and has plans for recipe books and a general diary app, taking advantage of the downturn in sales as an opportunity.

Unfazed by the rivalry from rival Dutch company Polarsteps, Witte highlights the distinctiveness of Journal Lab's methodology. Journal Lab offers a diary editor where users directly design the final output, integrating lengthier writings with photos—a differentiation that appeals to a different target demographic than Polarsteps, which places an emphasis on GPS monitoring.

Witte brightens Journal Lab's gloomy days with a wish to return to the Philippines, where he had visited earlier in the year, and shares plans to celebrate the deal.
