SUMMARY
- Valencia-based Internxt has raised €3.3 million to grow its privacy-focused tech platform. The startup aims to be a European alternative to Big Tech by offering secure digital services that respect user privacy.
Internxt’s current products include encrypted cloud storage (Drive), a private VPN, and a lightweight antivirus. Upcoming features like Internxt Mail and Meet will offer private, secure alternatives to traditional email and video calls—free from tracking or data access.

Founded by Fran Villalba Segarra, Internxt now has a 30-member team focused on building user-first, ad-free, and transparent digital tools. Inspired by a past experience with a data breach, Segarra is committed to creating safer digital experiences without the risks of surveillance or data misuse.
“That experience really opened my eyes. People trust big tech companies far too much. Your data, whether it’s emails, photos, or files, can be vulnerable and needs to be protected. When I saw firsthand how easily that trust can be broken, I knew there had to be a better way.”
According to Villalba Segarra, the internet wasn’t originally designed with privacy in mind. Most modern platforms like Google, Facebook, and Instagram focus on data monetization—offering services not as the main goal, but as tools to deliver targeted ads.
“At Internxt, privacy is the end goal. Our services are not data-driven or ad-supported. That’s a fundamental difference, and it’s why Big Tech can’t simply pivot. Their business model depends too heavily on data.”
Internxt is adding post-quantum cryptographic algorithms to its services—designed to protect data from future quantum computers that could break today’s encryption methods like RSA or ECC.
The company already uses zero-knowledge encryption, which means files are encrypted on the user’s device, and Internxt can’t access the data or keys.
By layering post-quantum encryption, Internxt ensures that even if someone intercepts encrypted data today, it will stay secure in the future. Backed by a €1.4 million grant from CDTI and Spain’s Ministry of Science and Innovation, Internxt is building the first post-quantum encrypted cloud suite—Internxt Drive, Meet, and Mail.
While no one knows exactly when quantum threats will become real, CEO Villalba Segarra believes it's important to prepare now.
According to Villalba Segarra, being open source and regularly audited means “people don’t need to just trust us—they can verify our work.”
“Each year, we publish full code audits and penetration tests. With closed-source apps like WhatsApp, you can’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. For privacy-first companies like us, being open source is essential.”
