Finnish infrastructure software company Groundhawk has raised €2 million in Seed funding to modernise how underground utilities are mapped and documented.
SUMMARY
- Finnish infrastructure software company Groundhawk has raised €2 million in Seed funding to modernise how underground utilities are mapped and documented.
As Europe accelerates investment in electricity grids, fibre networks, EV charging infrastructure and renewable energy integration, a major vulnerability persists: underground assets are still recorded using outdated surveys and rough estimates.
This contributes to more than €100 billion in global damage annually, along with costly project delays and safety risks linked to inaccurate mapping.
Groundhawk replaces analogue processes with real-time, AI-powered 3D data capture. Construction crews can document underground installations while trenches remain open generating centimetre level accurate digital records that sync instantly to the cloud.

By capturing depth measurements, installation details and visual records in real time, Groundhawk enables teams to verify that cables, ducts and connection points are correctly installed before sites are closed.
This shifts documentation from a passive afterthought to an active quality-control system allowing issues to be identified and resolved immediately rather than discovered weeks later.
“As networks expand and regulations tighten, Groundhawk becomes the essential interface between physical construction and digital infrastructure."
“Groundhawk is so user-friendly that anyone already on site with the device can handle the cable mapping. If you can shoot a video with your mobile phone, you can use Groundhawk. This accelerates the entire project,” says Christoffer Winquist, CEO and co-founder of Groundhawk.
All captured data syncs instantly to a cloud platform, giving network owners full visibility and a precise digital map of newly installed underground assets. The approach can reduce surveying costs by up to 50%, while enabling project managers to monitor contractor progress and quality compliance in real time.
Groundhawk supports network owners, prime contractors and subcontractors working on fibre and electricity infrastructure projects. Its customers include major Nordic and European contractors such as Eltel Networks, Voimatel, Elvera and Signal Group, serving operators including Telia, Telenor, Caruna, GlobalConnect, E.ON and Valokuitunen.
The €2 million round was led by Greencode Ventures and 2C Ventures. According to Greencode Ventures’ Managing Partner Ines Bergmann-Nolting, the team’s strong sector expertise, technical depth and early market traction made the investment compelling.
The funding will be used to scale a B2B sales organisation across Germany, the UK, Benelux and the Nordics, expand the engineering team to enhance AI and spatial intelligence capabilities, and develop new features extending from construction-phase documentation into planning support and predictive quality assurance.
