SUMMARY

  • Unchained Robotics, a Germany-based startup, has raised €8.5 million in an extended Series A round to take its technology global.

The company is focused on solving one of the biggest challenges in automation—making robots easy to use through smart software.

Traditional automation is often costly, complex, and time-consuming, with robots needing weeks of manual programming before they’re ready. This makes it hard for smaller businesses to adopt.

Unchained Robotics is changing that with LUNA OS—a universal control system that connects robots from different manufacturers and makes them as easy to operate as a smartphone. With no prior experience needed, anyone can now manage robots in the factory, helping companies streamline operations and reduce setup time.

Unchained Robotics offers an online platform that makes it easy for companies to search, find, and integrate the right robots into their production lines.

The company also provides a ready-to-use solution called the MalocherBot—a flexible, turnkey robot that can be set up without any specialised knowledge. It's designed for both large companies and small to mid-sized businesses that may not have the resources or expertise to manage complex automation systems.

Mladen Milicevic, co-founder of Unchained Robotis, says: We’ve struck a chord with SMEs: everyone is looking for simple and affordable automation solutions that can be implemented quickly, without requiring special expertise.

With the demand for simple, standardised automation rising quickly, automation is becoming essential for businesses to stay competitive—especially for manual tasks like machine loading and palletising. At the same time, the integration of AI and physical robotics is evolving rapidly. As Kevin Freise, co-founder of Unchained Robotics, explains:

We envision a future where AI-powered robotic systems not only take over repetitive tasks but also become increasingly adaptable through continuous learning. LUNA OS forms the crucial bridge between intelligent software and physical automation for this purpose.

Over 300 companies across Europe are already using Unchained Robotics’ solution, including well-known brands like Vorwerk, Europe’s largest direct sales company.

Unchained Robotics’ solution allowed us to automate quickly and easily – without any additional programming skills or long ramp-up times, says Joern Compernass, Managing Director of Vorwerk Logistik.

The funding round was backed by Direttissima Growth Partners, Navivo Capital, Future Industry Ventures, vent.io, and D11Z.

Christopher Hoffmann of Direttissima Growth Partners believes Unchained Robotics is tackling a major challenge in the industry—the lack of standardisation in automation. He shares:

With its operating system LUNA OS and the modular Malocherbot cell, robotic automation becomes easily scalable – a crucial step for the future of manufacturing and logistics.

Alongside its strong presence in Europe, Unchained Robotics is now expanding into the US. The company is also entering its next phase of growth—working to establish a global standard for robotics.
