Gaia Turbine, based in Lugano, has successfully raised €1.15 million to further develop its hydroelectric micro and mini-turbines. This funding comes after the company launched its first pilot project in late 2024.

The funding round included investments from angel investors and TiVentures SA, who had previously supported the company.

Franco Tommasini, Co-founder and CTO of Gaia Turbine SA said, “This pilot project is a pivotal moment for Gaia Turbine, We are both demonstrating the effectiveness of our technology in n operational environment and we are preparing to take it to a larger scale thanks to the confidence of our investors and industry partners.”

This new funding is a big step forward for Gaia Turbine’s growth, following the launch of its first pilot project in December 2024 at AMB (Azienda Multiservizi Bellinzona).

The company’s plug-and-play hydroelectric turbine is now connected to the power grid, where it is showing good performance in real-world conditions.

With this extra funding, it will speed up its development, focusing on expanding its market presence and moving toward full industrial production.

The company is also looking at potential locations for its next pilot project to further test the turbine’s flexibility and efficiency in new areas like water supply networks.

It is also building stronger partnerships with commercial and industrial companies, both in Switzerland and globally, to help expand its technology and prepare for large-scale use.

The company has also started a business study with Student Impact, a group of talented students from the University of St.Gallen, known for their focus on sustainable business practices.
