SUMMARY

  • FoodLabs a Berlin‑based venture capital firm has raised a third fund of €105 million to back startups at the intersection of food, health, and climate.

The new fund will focus on three core areas: agriculture, food security, and health. In agriculture, FoodLabs is investing in technology and financial tools to boost yields and cut chemical inputs including support for Voltrac, which builds autonomous tractors, and Deutsche Agrarfinanz (DAF), an agri‑fintech offering short‑term farm loans.

The firm is backed by a diverse mix of investors including Bitburger Holding, Nestlé, Red Bull, and Landwirtschaftliche Rentenbank Germany’s development bank for rural industries.

Founded in 2016 by Christophe F. Maire, FoodLabs emerged from the recognition that the food industry central to the climate crisis had lagged behind the waves of innovation seen in mobility or fintech.

The firm calls itself a “venture studio and early‑stage investor in sustainable food innovation,” aiming to overhaul a vast, inefficient, and largely analogue industry.

FoodLabs’ goal is to help create a food system that is healthier, more resilient, and regenerative. Its portfolio includes startups like Formo (animal‑free cheese via precision fermentation), Klim (regenerative agriculture), and Infinite Roots (mycelium‑based meat alternatives).

What makes FoodLabs stand out in Europe’s food‑tech ecosystem is its hybrid model combining classic venture investing with active company‑building support. Beyond capital, the team helps founders test ideas, refine technology, and build early partnerships with manufacturers or research institutions.
