SUMMARY

  • Delft-based ExRobotics, which develops explosion-proof autonomous inspection robots for the energy and petrochemical sectors, has secured the first tranche of up to €7M in growth funding.

The funding round is led by FORWARD.one, with ongoing support from long-term investor Rotterdam Port Fund. FORWARD.one is a leading industrial technology VC, with Funds I and II ranking among Europe’s top 5% of venture capital funds.

“We firmly believe in the role of autonomous robots in solving real, high-impact problems for the oil and gas sector,” says Arjan Göbel, Partner at FORWARD.one. “ExRobotics stands out through its proven deployments, deep certification expertise and clear customer value. The company turns safety, emissions and uptime into measurable performance. That’s our kind of business.”

Additionally, several other potential investors are currently in discussions to participate in this funding round.

The funding announcement comes as the Dutch company reaches cash flow break-even. The investment will accelerate global deployment of its Robot-as-a-Service (RaaS) fleets, expand software capabilities, and scale manufacturing to meet growing demand.

Led by Mark Mildon, ExRobotics’ ExR-2 robots autonomously inspect hazardous or hard-to-reach industrial sites, including “Ex zones” in oil, gas, and chemical plants where explosive gases may be present.

The robots safely detect methane leaks, perform safety checks and collect real-time data, helping operators prevent downtime and reduce emissions. Already deployed across tropical, desert and arctic environments, ExRobotics supports over 100 installations across first- and second-generation platforms.

By automating inspections, the system enables constant monitoring, rapid issue detection, increased uptime, lower maintenance costs, and fewer operational disruptions.

“Our industry is at an inflexion point,” says Mark Mildon, CEO of ExRobotics. “Our core customers are scaling fast, and we’re investing to grow with them. FORWARD.one brings the right experience in scaling industrial technologies and intuitively understands the challenges we face. Together, we will accelerate our ability to help customers operate more safely, sustainably and efficiently.”

“Over the past years, a solid foundation has been built in terms of technology, team and customer relationships, positioning ExRobotics exceptionally well to meet the growing global demand for certified autonomous inspection robots,” says David van Loo, Investment Director of Rotterdam Port Fund. “We are very pleased to join forces with FORWARD.one to enable the next phase of scaling.”
