SUMMARY

  • Rotterdam-based mobility booking platform umob has raised €3.5 million in a new funding round to support the growth of sustainable mobility across Europe.

The platform brings together local and international mobility providers into one easy-to-use app.

This latest round comes after a €6 million raise in late 2023. Soon after that, umob acquired Finnish company MaaS Global, known for launching Whim, the world’s first commercial Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) app.

MaaS Global had previously raised €70 million from major investors like BP Ventures, Toyota, and Mitsubishi.

Bibi Jorissen, CEO and Co-founder of umob, says: “We have spent the past few years building a solid and scalable platform that truly makes traveling with different mobility providers easier for both consumers and business users. The newly raised capital enables us to fully focus on growth: by building upon our strong international relationships, we aim to further expand our services throughout the continent, stimulating the growth of sustainable and accessible mobility.”

Jorissen (CEO) brings experience from companies like General Motors and Greenwheels, while Pouwels (CCO), the former CEO and co-founder of GO Sharing, has raised over €100 million for startups in the mobility sector.

Through a single account, users can access shared scooters, electric bikes, cars, and public transit. umob’s broader vision is to become a pan-European MaaS platform and a key player connecting cities and transport providers to solve urban mobility challenges.

The company sees growing demand for MaaS solutions as cities push for more sustainable, inclusive, and flexible mobility options to better manage limited urban space. umob’s platform allows users to plan and pay for multi-modal trips all in one app.

With the fresh €3.5 million funding, umob plans to expand further across major cities in Europe, building on its presence in eleven countries to date.

Raymon Pouwels, CCO and Co-founder of umob, adds: “What started as a vision has quickly grown to become a powerful technical solution developed fully in-house, positioning umob as a strategic partner for municipalities and mobility providers. With the support of our investors, we are now preparing for the next chapter: fully integrating European travel services in one single platform.”

Since launching in February 2024, umob has seen strong growth in its home market and early traction in key European countries like Germany, France, and Spain.

The platform now provides access to over 500,000 shared mobility vehicles from providers such as Lime, Bird, and Cooltra, along with full public transport coverage in several Western European countries and integration with all major European taxi services.
