Croatian-founded Daytona, a platform that manages open-source development environments, secures $5million in seed funding. With the help of current investor 500 Emerging Europe and led by Upfront Ventures, Daytona will be able to expand the availability of simplified development environments to developers more quickly.

The money will be used by the business to develop new products and hire people to fill positions in engineering, sales, and marketing. It automates environment settings on branches, oversees the creation of standard and secure environments, and permits environment sharing.

Additionally, it conforms to standards like Development Container, Devfile, Nix, and others by integrating with IDEs or Git providers. Recently, the company released an open source version targeted at individual developers, which has been well received and has amassed 5,000 GitHub stars in just two months.

Originally designed with major organisations in mind, Daytona let its developers to work together more easily, automate activities, and increase productivity—all while adhering to enterprise security requirements.

Realising how important it is to share these advantages with smaller businesses, it has made essential corporate platform components open source so that individual developers can benefit from the same simplified development process.

One issue that keeps coming up for developers is that uneven development environments cause major productivity losses. Inefficient workspaces cause developers to lose 56% of their working time, according to IEEE Journal. By enabling any developer to establish a completely functional environment with just the command "daytona create," it tackles this problem head-on.

Ivan Burazin, co-founder and CEO of Daytona said, “Our goal is to make every developer more productive, while lowering the barrier to entry for newcomers by removing unnecessary complexities. Today, setting up a dev environment can feel like starting a car in the 1900s with many steps and points of failure, Daytona makes it as simple as starting a modern car today where you can just push a button and go. We help developers focus on what really matters to them, which is writing code and building innovative solutions."

Kevin Zhang, Partner at Upfront Ventures and new board member at Daytona said, “We’re thrilled to support the Daytona team on their mission to simplify development environments, The most forward thinking companies in the world have landed on cloud developer environments as a way of achieving a uniform developer environment for their teams. The Daytona founders have been working towards this since they created one of the first cloud IDEs over a decade ago. Their subject matter expertise and passion uniquely positions them to build a beloved developer experience that also satisfies even the strongest security requirements.”
