At the same time, new EU rules now require organizations to report their climate risks, creating a growing need for accurate, science-based tools.
Celest Science, a Paris-based startup, is stepping in to help. They provide climate risk insights to banks, energy companies and governments. Their tools help these organizations meet regulations and prepare for changing climate risks.
Using climate science and machine learning, Celest builds models that predict extreme weather events. These models go beyond past data—they analyze how land, ocean, and air systems interact to show what’s happening now and what might come next. Their forecasts range from two weeks to six months, helping users plan for both the short and long term.
The company was founded in 2023 by Dr. Léo Lemordant and Professor Pierre Gentine. They met during Lemordant’s PhD at Columbia University. Lemordant also started Enerfip, a renewable energy crowdfunding platform that raised over €600 million. Gentine is a leading climate scientist recognized by the Nobel Prize committee for his work with machine learning in climate research.
