French startup Byome Labs has raised €3.6 million to commercialize what is claimed to be the world’s first instant, point-of-sale skin microbiome measurement solution.

The funding will support industrial production of Byome Derma, a skin test that provides personalized skincare recommendations based on each individual’s microbiome.

The solution allows skin microbiome sampling and measurement within minutes directly at the point of sale.

BYOME LABS, founded in 2023, has an R&D center in Cosmetic Valley, Chartres, studying how cosmetic products interact with the skin. Its microbiology lab helps clients with scientific expertise, marketing claims, and R&D validation, combining innovation and technology to advance microbiome research for cosmetics.

Designed as a white-label solution for retail, Byome Derma enables cosmetic and dermo-cosmetic brands to deliver hyper-personalized experiences backed by scientific data. Using microbial diversity analysis via antigenic strips (similar to COVID tests) and dermatologist-trained AI, it provides product recommendations without devices, pain, or high cost.

Byome Labs plans to begin industrial production of the first Byome Derma kits by year-end, with international rollout across Europe, the US, and Asia in 2026. The company also intends to expand its R&D team and open new positions next year.
